Subsidence Investigation Services

Sinkholes are a form of ground subsidence that can happen catastrophically. This subsidence occurs when carbonate layers that lie below the surface dissolve. When the weight of the overlying ground becomes too great, or the dissolved area too large, the surface collapses into the void. These features occur in what is known as karst topography, which is common in Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, Pennsylvania and Tennessee and also occurs in many other places around the world.

SDII Global conducts statewide subsidence investigations, following the sinkhole investigation protocols suggested by Florida Statutes (627.706 F.S. and 627.707 F.S.)

These evaluations are based on an extensive data collection and interpretation effort by our technical staff. Senior licensed professionals who review, sign and seal SDII reports include Professional Geologist, Professional Geotechnical Engineers, Professional Structural Engineers and Ph.D.'s. Our professionals have been qualified in both federal and state court as experts in Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Geophysics, Hydrogeology and Soil Science.

The standard scope of testing includes:
  • Site Reconnaissance Visit
    • Ground Penetrating Radar
    • Hand Auger Samples
    • Test Pit Excavation
    • Documentation of All Damage
    • Interview with Insured
  • Floor Elevation Survey
  • Structural Evaluation
  • Laboratory Soil Analysis
  • Standard Penetration Test Borings

We understand the time urgency of our assignments. In-house capabilities including drill rigs, geophysical equipment, a soils laboratory, and all technical professional involved in the completion of a subsidence investigation allow us to provide an efficient and effective "time sensitive" solution.
